Demonstration of Self-Starting Nonlinear Mode Locking in Random Lasers

چکیده

In ultrafast multimode lasers, mode locking is implemented by means of saturable absorbers or modulators, allowing for very short pulses. This occurs because nonlinear interactions modes with well equispaced frequencies. Though theory predicts that, in the absence any device, would occur random this has never been demonstrated so far. Through analysis correlations we provide clear evidence coupling lasers. The behavior multiresonance intensity tested against frequency matching condition equivalent to one underlying phase ordered Nontrivially large are clearly observed spatially overlapping resonances that sensitively depend on be satisfied, eventually demonstrating occurrence mode-locked coupling. first example, our knowledge, an experimental realization self-starting many new developments design and use nanostructured devices.

Self-starting of passive mode locking.

It has been recently understood that mode locking of lasers has the signification of a thermodynamic phase transition in a system of many interacting light modes subject to noise. In the same framework, self starting of passive mode locking has the thermodynamic significance of a noise-activated escape process across an entropic barrier. Here we present the first dynamical study of the light mo...

Effect of beam ellipticity on self-mode locking in lasers.

Self-mode-locking is a common way of generating very short laser pulses.12 It occurs when a beam self-focuses and narrows as it passes through a nonlinear intracavity material, thus expanding or contracting at other locations of the laser cavity.3 Since self-focusing is an intensity-dependent process, at any point in the cavity an intense (mode-locked) laser beam has a different size from a wea...

Self-starting additive-pulse mode locking of a Nd:YAG laser.

We report additive-pulse mode locking of lamp-pumped Nd:YAG lasers at both 1.06 and 1.32 microm. Under completely self-starting conditions, stable cw mode-locked trains of 6-psec pulses have been achieved at an average output power of 2.4 W.

Self-starting Kerr-lens mode locking of a Ti:sapphire laser.

It is shown that Kerr-lens mode locking of a Ti:sapphire laser, with no intracavity elements except the laser rod and the dispersion-compensating prisms, can be made to be completely self-starting. We achieve this result by carefully designing the resonator to maximize the nonlinear mode variations and dynamic loss modulation.

Unidirectional ring resonators for self-starting passively mode-locked lasers.

Mode pulling and 6talon effects have been claimed to prevent self-starting in passively mode-locked lasers that use fast saturable absorbers. A unidirectional ring geometry significantly reduces backscatter coupling and thus should facilitate self-starting. We present supportive evidence and demonstrate true self-starting in self-stabilized, passively mode-locked Ti:sapphire and erbium fiber la...
